November 18, 2017

In partnership with Calgary Underground Film Festival, The Fifth Reel is beyond excited to host, as part of our FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY MONTH, the Calgary premiere of DON'T BREAK DOWN: A FILM ABOUT JAWBREAKER.

This one night only event will take place during CUFF Docs at Globe Cinema and will be a sure-to-please gem for die-hard fans of the acclaimed punk band and music documentary lovers alike.

“In 2007, 11 years after one of the most influential American punk bands, Jawbreaker, called it quits the three members, Blake Schwarzenbach, Chris Bauermeister, and Adam Pfahler reconnected in a San Francisco recording studio to listen back to their albums, reminisce and even perform together. Follow the band as they retell their “rags to riches to rags” story writhe with inner band turmoil, health issues, and the aftermath of signing to a major label. Featuring interviews with Billie Joe Armstrong, Steve Albini, Jessica Hopper, Graham Elliot, Chris Shiflett, Josh Caterer and more.”

“[Jawbreaker’s] mix of deceptively sweet melodies, unrelenting power and Schwarzenbach's punk-Bukowsi lyricism made them one of the most influential groups of the '90s” – Rolling Stone Magazine

“These are life-changing songs that still give goosebumps. It's curious to see how this sound's been picked up and softened by the bands that came after—there's echoes of it, certainly, but nobody's nailed Jawbreaker's snarling mixture of tender and tough since.” – Pitchfork Media

“For people who came up with the band in the early ’90s, Jawbreaker has been our great white reunion whale. We once predicted they’d never do it” – The AV Club
